Hello Everyone,

April the 9th is our last day of co-op!  WOW!  This year just seemed to fly by, didn’t it?  It seems like only yesterday we were all meeting for the first time and finding our way into our new classes.

We’ve had a truly wonderful year and we’ve been blessed with so many wonderful teachers.  I’d like to thank each of you for your support, hard work and patience.   I would also like to thank each and every student who has worked hard and earned credits this year, along with our elementary kids who are such incredible, well mannered young people.  You are EACH a blessing to me and to the co-op.

I look forward to our pizza lunch on the last day of co-op!  We will have pizza at noon and no afternoon classes.  (although Ms. Ginger will be holding an art class for those that would like to attend)  I look forward to seeing you all there and getting registration started for next year.

Blessings and again, thank you so much for all that you guys did to make this year such a success!

Kristi

I wanted to take this time to invite everyone to come and see our art show.  The homeschool co-op’s art will be displayed from March the 26th thru April 16th at Restoration Church in Spartanburg.  The church is located in the old Waccamaw Pottery building at New Cut Rd. and I-26.

Please join us on March 31st for a wonderful night with the Spartanburg Artisans.  There will be refreshments and plenty of time to view the children’s work.  All of their work, along with some artisans works, will be beautifully displayed each day.

Please note that these will be taken down on April 16th.  If your child has any art work that is being displayed, please be there between 1-3 p.m. to pick their work up and save for their portfolios.

I’d like to send out a special thank you to Mrs. Ginger Brown.  She is our art teacher at the co-op and works so hard to ensure that every child learns and truly has the opportunity to see the gifts that God has given each of them.   She really loves these kids and they, in turn, adore her!

Blessings and I hope to see you there, Kristi

We will be holding a meeting at the Spartanburg County Public Library on January, 9th at 6:00  p.m.   This meeting will be to determine what classes are needed and wanted for the 09/10 school year.  We must begin planning now so that we can have all teachers in place and all classes planned.

Anyone who is interested is encouraged to attend.  We welcome any suggestions for any classes that homeschooling parents would like to see put into place.

So far, we have these classes in mind:  Geometry and Algebra II to be taught by Jennifer Carr.  Jennifer is a certified high school math teacher and is wonderful with the students!  Apologia Science for middle school, IEW for 3rd-12th grades, Etiquette to be taught by a certified etiquette teacher and Konos for the K/5-1st graders.   We welcome ANY other suggestions that parents may have.

Please mark this date on your calendars and plan to attend.  This is the only meeting we will have about planning the STARS co-op classes.  The next time we have any info will be the parent/teacher meeting and the 1st  open registration, so if you want to be a part of planning what’s offered or know that you’d like some help with specific subjects, now’s the time!

Blessings, Kristi

Director, STARS home school co-op

Well, we’ve certainly had a wonderful year so far and it’s hard to believe that Christmas is almost here.

The last day of co-op, this semester, is December the 4th and we’ll be having our annual Christmas dinner with the students.  Please remember to bring your side dish, dessert and/or drink.  Don’t for that the co-op will be providing the ham and turkey, as well as the paper products. We will have the children make their ornaments from 10-12 and then eat.  We should be finished by 1pm and on our way home for our break!!

Co-op will resume on January the 22nd and all classes will remain the same.  Please make sure that if you have any work you’d like the kids to complete over the break, that you send it home with them and with clear instructions.

Thanks to each and every one of you for all you do!  You are all such a blessing to me and the co-op. May our Season be filled with joy and the wonder of a Loving God!

Merry Christmas, Kristi :)

It’s that time of year!  Summer is here and we finally get a break from being teachers and can just be parents.  Yeah, right!  :)

This summer I am working on our Chapter of the National Home School Honor Society.  I am pleased to say that my son has qualified and I am looking for 4 other members to send to the home office in Texas. If your child has scored at least 90% on their Iowa or Staford standardized tests and has a 3.5 GPA,  please let me know so that I can get them enrolled in our chapter of the National Home School Honor Society in Spartanburg, S.C..

The Home School Honor Society has higher standards than the public and private schools Beta Club and Honor Society.  This is an excellent tool for college and University applications. They are not unaware that our standards for acceptance are higher.

Once the school year 08/09 begins, we will be placing the enrolled students in positions of Pres., V. Pres., Sect., and Treasurer.  These are important positions that are wonderful leadership tools.  This can also be placed on each students college application.

I hope to hear from each of you soon!

I think it’s very important to remind each of our parents to join our Yahoo group.  All of our events are posted on our calendar.  Including dissection classes, field trips and start and stop dates.  Also, you will be able to download and print each class syllabus that you need from there.

Just go to Yahoo.com and on the left hand side of the screen you will see a tab for groups.  Click that tab.  Then you will be prompted to type in what group you are looking for.  Just type in spartanburghomeschoolco-op.   That should pull us up.  Then just join that group!  It’s completely free and all of our emails will eventually come from there.

This forum also gives each of you the opportunity to send me messages and find one another’s emails.  It’s a great way for our co-op to all be on the same page.

Thanks, Kristi!

Our parent/teacher meeting went extremely well! I’d like to thank everyone who came and everyone who participated.

Our nursery thru 4th grades are already full and 3rd thru 7th individual classes are almost full as well.  The high school classes are over 1/3 full and with the July registration, I imagine they will be full also!  That’s so great and such a wonderful bonus for our kids.  They enjoy the classes so much better when they are full and have more group participation.

I will be sending out the syllabuses soon and which textbook that each class will require.  Please be looking for the dates sheets that I will send out this summer. It will give you our start and stop dates as well as the dates for dissections and art classes.

Again, thanks to each of you for such an incredible turn out.

Kristi!

Hello Everyone,

This is just a reminder about the parent/teacher meeting on April the 24th.  That’s THIS Thursday!  We will meet at Restoration Church in Spartanburg. Restoration is located at the junction of I-26 and New Cut Rd.  The meeting will begin promptly at 6:00p.m. and end around 7:30p.m.

There will be a babysitter available for those of you who have to bring your kids.  This is your opportunity to meet the teachers who have already been assigned rooms and to ask me any questions that you may have.  There will also be time for registration. This is our first opportunity to register your kids so if you want to make sure you get the classes you’d like, I’d strongly encourage you to try your best to attend this meeting.

The registration in July is so busy that I do not have time to stop and answer individual parental questions.  This is the time to ask anything you’d like to know about STARS.

Thanks and I look forward to seeing each of you there!

Kristi Walker, Director of STARS co-op.

I am pleased to announce that we will also be offering elementary Spanish and Spanish I for high schoolers.  Mrs. Angela Perry, who is fluent in Spanish, will be teaching this class for both levels. The high school class will be good for one high school credit.

We will be using the Rosetta Stone curriculum and administering the exams that go with this curriculum.  We are very excited to be offering this next year and hope to see you there. :)

April the 22nd is our last day of co-op this year!  I hope that all of you enjoyed this year as much as I have.  I know that co-op is a great deal of work, but the rewards are so much greater.

I encourage each of you to attend our parent/teacher meeting on April the 24th and let’s being planning next year’s co-op together.  Our children need this outlet to get the well-rounded education that we all desire for them.

I would like to personally thank each one of you for all your hard work this year. I especially want to thank our new parents who really stepped up to the challenge of making our co-op excellent.

God Bless each one of you.

Thank you and have a rockin’ summer, Kristi!
